aerofly FS – Another challenge to Flight and X-Plane?

Spotted by our German colleagues over at simFlight.de, aerofly FS seems to have snuck out slightly ‘under the radar’, with no international press launch, advertising or discussion apparently at all.

Stating itself to be “generated by an unprecedented combination from extremely detailed aircraft, high-resolution landscape and perfect flight physics” (Google translation… My Secondary School German fell over, I’m afraid!), aeroflyFS recreates the entirety of Switzerland, with a number of aircraft ranging from the F/A-18 Hornet fighter to a Swift glider and a Sopwith Camel WW1 biplane.

The simulator is on the market at €39.99 for Windows XP, Vista and 7 – a standalone Mac version is expected soon – and the site reports delivery is expected “before Christmas”. There is one potential limitation for purchasers, though… The developers’ website is currently in German only and aeroflyFS is only advertised on the site’s German and International stores, not the UK or US incarnations. You may need to keep a German dictionary handy if you want to give it a go, but the site promises that English translations will be available soon of the information on it. Hopefully a translated version of the sim will be, too.

For more screenshots, videos and information (in German only at this time), visit the aerofly FS website here.

  1. I’ve been informed by one of the development team that aeroflyFS itself is already in English, it’s just the English language side of the website that’s still in development.

  2. I don’t see on the website where I can order this product. I see options for the RC simulator (Aerofly5 for example) but not the Flight Simulator.

  3. Does not support small HD resolution (1280×720), which makes it useless for most beamers.

  4. I’ve just been told that one of the people who did development for the project records video in 1280×720 and that you can set individual resolutions in the main.mcf file?

Unfortunately not having the sim, I cannot confirm this, but hopefully that makes sense to you?
