The X-Plane 12.1.3 Beta introduces a major overhaul to the default ATC system, significantly enhancing realism and user interaction. Pilots can now engage in more realistic radio communications, including radio checks, clearance requests, and VFR and IFR procedures with SID/STAR support. New features include reporting transponder failures, diversions, and alternative runway requests, while Canadian airspace now incorporates ICAO phrases and inHg pressure units. A comprehensive ATC manual and a push-to-talk setup make the system more accessible. ATC transmissions can also be routed to separate audio devices, boosting immersion.
Additional updates include improvements to the weather system, addressing altitude and pressure changes and recalibrating NEXRAD and METAR interpretations. The Downtown Manhattan Heliport (KJRB) debuts as a new custom airport, catering to helicopter and commuter flights. Aircraft enhancements focus on the Airbus A330-300, with autopilot improvements for smoother descent gradients and turn handling, alongside fixes for other aircraft like the Cirrus SR22 and Citation X. Ground vehicles, taxi routes, and airport maps also see refinements, offering clearer navigation and improved service truck behavior.
A significant milestone is the introduction of the optional X-Plane Identity system, a precursor to the upcoming X-Plane Store. This feature allows users to link product keys for easier add-on management and updates. The beta also delivers a revamped user interface, rendering optimizations, and enriched navigation data (AIRAC 2306). Public beta testing for 12.1.3 is now available via the X-Plane Installer or Steam.
