Airport Overview
Cologne-Bonn Developed by Aerosoft back in 2020 and updated for P3Dv5 in 2022 is probably in
my personal opinion, Aerosoft’s best quality P3D scenery on the market. Developed by Jo Erlend
Sund, the airport is located in the district of Porz, the airport has two terminals. Terminal 1
primarily handles scheduled flights by airlines such as Lufthansa, Eurowings, and others. Terminal
2 is mainly used by low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and Wizz Air. Cologne Bonn Airport serves as
a hub for cargo operations and is a significant base for low-cost carriers in Europe. It handles both
passenger and cargo traffic. Cologne Bonn Airport offers flights to a wide range of cities in Europe,
including major hubs such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Munich, as well as popular
tourist destinations like Barcelona, Rome, and Istanbul. Additionally, there may be seasonal or
charter flights to other destinations outside of Europe.
Airport Features
The airport comes with a large photo scenery surrounding of approx. 1000 km2 and was recreated
with high-quality 3D models and photorealistic textures. Its seasonal adaptations and custom
winter textures make it shine all year long. Around the parking positions you’ll find lots of ground
equipment and clutter objects, exemplifying the developer’s attention to detail put into this
scenery. The already numerous animations, of the service vehicles, passengers, or wind socks, can
be further expanded upon with the use of SODE – which then also moves jetways and doors in a
realistic way. However, I personally found the SODE jetways to be fairly buggy and not fully
optimized and opted to test using the Cartanya files GSX profile for Cologne-Bonn.
Modeling and Texturing
After careful examination of the terminal and its features reveals high-quality textures and
meticulous modeling of all major airport buildings. The emphasis on high-quality texturing and
details of the apron showcases P3D addon quality such as high LOD objects, ground markings
details, 3D grass, various lighting effects and other fairly impressive details such as blowing snow
effects and dynamic lighting which can be directly controlled from the Product’s configurator.
These minute details albeit unnoticeable to the naked eye definitely make the airport alive and
active as if you are flying out of the real-life Cologne airport.
Final Feedback
In simple few words, this was a really impressive scenery and has been on my bucket list of P3D
addons for quite some time. I have been simply awed by the massive so called hidden details
included within this scenery and definitely Jo Erlend Sund has not disappointed at all! I hope that
he will continue to develop for the P3D Market and This is probably my most recommended
product to have in one’s collection for P3D in Europe. Simply to end in one word, chapeau!!
