In a press release on Airventire 2010, the EAA reports that “…… A parachute team originally formed in 2006 to commemorate the World War II D-Day invasion will make its first appearance at AirVenture Oshkosh 2010. The Liberty Jump Team (not to be confused with long-time Oshkosh participants, the Liberty Parachute Team) will make several static jumps during the week from a C-47, using military steerable round canopy parachutes…..”.
“…… Like in WWII, the team uses vintage C-47s to perform their jumps – most of the aircraft having been used overseas during WWII to carry U.S. paratroopers for the D-Day landings. This makes the group’s appearance at AirVenture even more special, as EAA celebrates the 75th anniversary of the DC-3/C-47 this year….”. Read more about it here.
