The June Screenshot Competition Results

LiltreyWow! Some months we do get ‘em. If we thought last month’s contest was a tough one to judge, this months was not much easier. Forum member Liltrey did manage to get a clear lead in both the public and the judges votes, but second place has never been more hotly contested. Both JDHaenens and Vingador Turbina had picture that could hardly have been more opposite. But “There can only be one” and so second place goes to JDHaenens and his very compelling moonlit shot of a carrier deck just coming to life.
Current and past contest winners can be seen here, in the prizewinners’ gallery.

May Screenshot Competition Results Announced

Monday, June 1st, 2009, 14:36 GMT

wingzWe had one heck of a time judging the entries this month. The decision was not easy with the standard of entries that were submitted. If you followed the competition, you’ll recall that the theme for this month was “Workhorses”

The Dromedar snapped by WingZ has got the lot this month. It is a fairly old workhorse and it looks the job too. Probably smells like a fertilizer plant, it’s in desparate need of a bucketful of soapy water, but the pilot is earning a few zloty more.

simflightlogoIn the right hand column you can find our new poll; Do you use ? Why are we curious? Because WE are using it and already have a few ‘groups’ running there (such as the Emma Field group and the Support FS group). We’re planning on expanding that presence, but are curious to know how many of our readers would find us. is a ’social networking’  application, something between chat, email and blog. More info here.

SimFlight Mail Spammed to Death

simflightlogoIf you maybe do not see your press release published on , it may have to do with spammers. We were using Google Groups to filter messages sent to @, and Google has now declared US spammer…… just because of all the spam messages that were sent to us. Great! So now we do NOT get most of the e-mail sent to us. Which makes for a nice change, and a few quiet mornings for your editor. But if you REALLY have , you may want to send it temporarily to at dot com, until we fix things with new spam filters.

Poll: Did MS Alienate Customers?

ms_masthead_ltrSince abandoned Flight Simulator many people ‘declared’ they would no longer support the Redmond giant. FS was the only reason they were buying MS products (read: operating systems) anyway and that reason now had disappeared. Obviously many people, especially in communities like ours, were extremely disappointed. But to what extent did the recent unfortunate events in Redmond REALLY change your behaviour towards ? Let us know in the (see right-hand column).
By the way, you can also still show your support for FS via our Facebook group here !

francoiswell, sort of….. : I am BACK!

But maybe you didn’t miss me, in that case, please skip this post and continue your download of some exciting new titles… *cough*.
Both Nina and I had a severe case of the flu and we’re only now slowly recovering. At the same time both of my main PC’s crashed. What is it about trusting an IT expert to have working back-ups !!?? Hmf….
Anyway, I am sufficiently recovered to pick up work for , , FSAddon and my other again and happy to be back. With thanks to my fellow editors for keeping the Ship afloat…. and wishing all readers a much better start of 2009 than mine was!

There have been a few requests to allow larger / file sizes so that entries might look better. It’s not that our regular entrants need this of course – you already know how to optimise your of course. For more information on how to enter and what can be won, visit the screenshot competition forum. The picture here is from forum member Naki several months ago.

Two Down, One to Go

francoisA quick update from your editor:
Unfortunately my main PC, the one with all the ’serious’ programs and data on it, would not restart when we returned from our short Christmas holiday in Prague. Something broke on the motherboard. So I took it to the repair shop.

But even MORE unfortunate was the subsequent breakdown of Windows ( I think ) on my backup machine, after I moved the two ‘ production hard drives’ to it. It means I now only have a notebook running my email program, and Firefox…. but none of my programs and data I use daily.

It also means that a few projects I was working on are now on hold and my regular work for simFlight and simMarket is severely hampered as well.

Please be patient and know that I am doing everything I can to get back up and running as soon as possible, but not before the end of next week ! Meanwhile I am sure my trusted ‘ assistants’  will try and keep the ‘ news flowing’.

Yours,
