The Wiebes, who previously developed and marketed digital forensic computer storage devices as the founders of Wichita-based enterprise, WiebeTech LLC, acquired the tooling, existing parts and manufacturing rights to the aircraft in March of 2009. As a condition of the transaction, they agreed to re-brand the airplane to prevent any confusion with the larger, two-place light sport Kitfox that shares many of the same design features but is owned by another company. Kitfox has recorded more than 4,500 kit sales since its introduction 25 years ago…..”. Exciting to see new aircraft compaies being born, follow it here! |

“……The Japanese counterpart to the Allies’ Zinc Chromate anti-corrosion paint was called Aotake. Careful study of the FHC’s Mitsubishi A6M3-22 Zero and Nakajima Ki-43 Oscar fighters, reveals the bright color pigment in the wheel wells, on interior panels, and spanning internal bulkheads. The covering is a semi-transparent varnish that looks like the blue green metallic sheen of a scarab beetle. The unusual color was added to help assure that the coat was applied thoroughly. Aotake drives restorers (and model airplane builders) crazy because its hue and shade seems to change depending on the number of coats, age of the paint, when and where the paint was applied, and surface it has been applied to. Currently, the Zero and Oscar sit side by side in the FHC’s hangar, giving one the rare opportunity to compare their different shades of Aotake paint….”. ‘Bush pilots’, whether real or ’sim’ all know the Twin Otter aircraft series. Aerosoft made a nice rendition of one not so long ago. Unfortunately production was stopped in the late ’80’s. But now there’s good news, because Viking has bought the certification from Bombardier some time ago and has now started building NEW Twin Otters. Check out this YouTube interview!

Here’s an interesting video from the endless YouTube resource…. A Saab Viggen with a pilot who forgot his sandwiches at home…. These aircraft are designed to work from small airfields and roads even and can do amazing things. Not only make U-turns all by themselves, but also very short take-offs…. enjoy ! |

The pilot of this Beaver, trying to take off from Lake Spenard, Anchorage, Alaska, shows us that sailing a boat and flying a plane are two distinctly different things. Things go incredibly wrong for the poor guy….. AND the poor Beaver ! Nobody got hurt in the accident, although the camera man had a somewhat late reaction. The NTSB is investigating the incident.
