Anthony Lynch released his freeware FSX SP2 model of the popular De Havilland Tiger Moth trainer aircraft. This is a modern representation of the Australian built models as you may find flying today therefore it includes a few extra features not found on the original.  There is a paintkit available as well for this, custom sounds by Don Putnam, numerous animations, prop pull start, slide slips, spins and windmill starts and to top it off, smooth 3d gauges. Markus Freyt from Germany writes us “…… I’m very happy to let you know, that the website of the OpenVFR project (free VFR scenery for Microsoft Flightsimulator X) is now online. The OpenVFR project is based on the freeware OpenStreetmap project.

Simon Smeiman, author of FSAddon’s Piper and SuperCubs has released a nice little aerobatics aircraft, the Ultimate 10-300 ‘Bipe’, for FSX SP2. Simon says “….. This freeware model of the Ultimate is my gift to my fellow Simmers especially those who bought my commercial models. The model is also dedicated to Gordon Price, the creator of the real world Ultimate.

Matthias Neusinger writes on his forum that “….. It is now almost exactly a year since I started the complete rewrite of the code for version 2. The code has grown to more than 13000 lines (without comments and blank lines), and I spent lots of hours hacking FS9 and FSX to get the new features working.

Joop Mak of the NL2000 freeware scenery design group of The Netherlands, reports that they have released their Christmas Present now, in the form of Version 3.0 of the on-going effort to model the entire country in high detail, for FS2004. Added now are high detail aerial photos from 2005, adding more color and contrast. Check out their website here.

Ruud Faber of FScene reports that he has released yet another mission in the ‘Beagle’ series. “….. The missions are all inspired by a recently started 35-episodes Radio/TV series of VPRO, a Dutch Radio/TV station, to celebrate Charles Darwin’s 200th birth year and the 150th anniversary of his publication of “On the Origin of Species”. They follow Charles Darwin’s journey on the “Beagle” (1831-1836). Packed with scientists, writers and artists the clipper “Stad Amsterdam” has left Plymouth on the first of September 2009 for an 8 months’ journey around the world. …”. Greeksim publications reports that they have “….. released our new issue….”. Of what !? you may ask. Ah, they have a downloadable newsletter, called ‘Virtual Flight’, that’s what. FScene report that they have now releases their third ”Beagle” Mission: Rio de Janeiro. “…. Two very experienced pilots – you are one of them – have been hired to follow an 8 months naval expedition. In this 3rd mission you fly the vintage Douglas DC-3 N47D and visit 3 airports in the Rio the Janeiro region. This mission is a bit more difficult to fly……”.

Joerg Dannenberg of Flightport.de reports that they have released Version 3.0 of their Helipack, sinking more than 1000 hours in its development. It means that now just about each and every heliport in Germany is covered. The package is freeware, but you will need to have some patience downloading it. It now is 600 Mb in total !
