Finally I am back home after three weeks preparing for and traveling to the various flight simulator events here in northern Europe. Nina and I attended both the Aerosoft show in Paderborn and the FS Weekend at Lelystad, Netherlands. Paderborn was nice, especially the drive in the country side on a nice and sunny Saturday afternoon! And we attended the Captain’s Dinner where I somewhat unexpectedly handed out the simFlight Awards 2008. Here are some pictures……. Read the rest of this entry »

Despite a tough “theme of the month” challenge, the standard of the entries was good as usual. This month’s winner is member coincoin73 with his screenshot depicting a Varig Caravelle over Rio de Janeiro. He wins a copy of Sim Giants scenery addon “Tenerife North”. You can see his prize in the simMarket shop here

Click on the “Read More” link below to see the runners up.

CAVEAT: This missive seeks only to provoke thought and debate amongst readers and represents only the author’s standpoint. Comments are invited - discuss the subject in the comments threads - but please beware! Abusive and unfounded comments may be edited or deleted! OK?
FPS. What is it about three letters that seems to make even the meekest Flight Sim flier get so passionately hot under the collar? FPS… Frames Per Second… How simple it is to start a flame war with a simple comment like “My PC can show addon ‘X’ at 176 FPS.

Due to problems at our hosting company the simFlight web site and our simFlight forums suffered from outages and slowness yesterday. Our apologies for the inconvenience, but unfortunately these things happen in our modern day technological society. We contemplated changing to message pigeons, but now everything seems to be running fine again and we welcome you to lots of news and discussions regarding our FS hobby once more.
Francois.

Here’s a thesis: I think the current crisis for many consumers, especially those double-hit in the US (bad dollar AND bad economy), may be GOOD for the Flightsim Industry. After all the possibility of real flying becomes more distant again for many, having to watch their Dollars (AND Euros!) more carefully, so the next best thing is FS! I just read that Cirrus Aircraft is reducing their 4-days working week to a 3-day one, and they won’t be alone! As soon as we still make a few bucks, and continue to have affordable Internet, we’ll download great add-ons and fly on-line ! And you can meet your fellow pilots on the simFlight Forums of course!

The awards were handed out by Francois and Miguel, as usual, and the full and final list of winners and runners-up can be found here ! More news about the event will follow this week. First already has appeared on our Portuguese site !

Its holiday time

It's holiday time

The simFlight forums monthly screenshot competition seems to be a bit of a challenge this month. Continental South America (from the Panama Canal to Tierra del Fuego was set as the challenge. But that is what competitions are about, is it not?

This month we are giving away the holiday airport ‘Tenerife North - GCXO’ by developers Sim Giants.

Don’t worry, it’s only temporary (for now). Your managing editor moved to his place in France for a few weeks of vacationing. As with many things in this wonderful country, getting Internet to run took a bit more time than hoped for….. but the broadband connection is fully functional now. So NEWS will be coming to you once more. (Except for those days that we’ll be riding our motorcycle and getting some REST, of course). Apologies for the short interruptions. Go sim !!!!
