tempelhof_revival_smallVATSIM Germany, by word of  Torsten Falldorf, reports that “……. A sad anniversary is coming up on the 30th of October. In the year of 2006 the Berlin senate decided to close the airport of Berlin Tempelhof. The efforts of several organizations and a final Berlin-wide referendum in April 2008 unfortunately weren’t sufficient. The last takeoffs from Tempelhof were conducted on the 30th of October 2008 at 23:55 local time, with two historical planes, the Junkers Ju52 and the Douglas DC-3 (also known as the Candy bomber). Historians, veterans and aviation fanatics still mourn about the loss of one of the world’s oldest airports especially because it was the major airport of the Berlin Airlift during the Blockade….”.“….. After the fantastic resonance of the last year’s Tempelhof Good Bye Event, VATSIM Germany will present a rebirth of the former City Airport. On Friday the 30th of October Berlin Tempelhof will be reopened for 4 hours, giving our pilots the feeling of this wonderful airport back.

Where: Berlin-Tempelhof (EDDI)
When: 30.10.2009 18:00-22:00 UTC
You can find Charts on the VATSIM Germany Homepage.

We will hope to see you, to regain the spirit of Tempelhof!…”.
